Doug Goschke

Doug Goschke saw a vision when he joined Simpler Consulting as President in 1998. With deep roots and experience in the commercial manufacturing industry, Doug laid a credible, results-oriented foundation for our consulting work that guided Simpler through rapid growth in the US and expansion into the UK. He was instrumental in leading Simpler’s transition into non-traditional and non-manufacturing industries, including insurance, banking, private equity, construction, and healthcare. In 2008, Doug became Chairman of the Board for Simpler.

Doug started his career at General Motors after receiving his Bachelors in Business Administration from Illinois State University. During his GM years, he worked in Detroit, New Jersey, Michigan, and California moving through training, operations, and human resources roles. He proudly served in the United States Military Corp for two of his years at GM. After GM, Doug worked for Heatilator Fireplace which was purchased by Hon Industries in 1981, thus launching a great career with Hon with increasing responsibility including operations and human resources to plant manager to vice president and general manager of Hon’s largest facility. Before joining Simpler, Doug was the operations manager of Air System Component’s four manufacturing facilities in Dallas, Texas.

Marc Hafer

When Marc Hafer joined Simpler® as a senior consultant in 2002, he brought years of leadership experience in sales, marketing, product development, strategic planning and general management with him. His skills as a gifted teacher and visionary leader were evident from the beginning, and he quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming President of Simpler North America in 2007 and CEO of Simpler Holdings in 2009.

He learned the Toyota Production System and Lean tools working with one of the foremost US practitioners, the Shingijutsu Consulting Group. His experience in Lean Transformation ranges from manufacturing companies that produce high-volume, standard products to entrepreneurial organizations creating lower volume, custom engineered products. He has successfully applied Lean principles throughout entire enterprises, from shop floor manufacturing to office administrative/engineering functions and field construction crews.

Since joining Simpler, Marc’s experience has expanded even further. It now includes healthcare, the service industry and military assignments both in the United States and the United Kingdom. As CEO of Simpler Holdings, he is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of Simpler Consulting around the world. Marc also coaches client leadership teams. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and volunteers in support of industry organizations such as the Association for Manufacturing Excellence, the Shingo Prize, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Nicholas G. Middleton

Executive Vice President

Nick Middleton brings an engineer’s precision to his leadership role. And that’s only natural. Nick trained as an engineer and has 20 years of experience in the commercial manufacturing sector. He learned Lean principles while working with the Case Corporation.

He successfully applied these principles in various professional and management positions while earning his MBA. In 2000, Nick opened Simpler’s European-based arm. Staring from zero base, he built an impressive team of 40 of the world's leading Lean Sensei. Under his leadership, Simpler has been applying Lean knowledge in the commercial and public service sectors throughout the UK and in key European locations.

As a pro-bono contributor to the US-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 100,000 Lives Campaign, Nick got involved in applying Lean principles to healthcare. And he was one of the first people to bring Lean Transformation into the healthcare arena in Europe. It is now credited as one of the leading methodologies transforming the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.

Charlie Schellhorn

Charles W. Schellhorn is currently the President of The Aberdeen Financial Group, LLC and is the retired President and CEO of Argus Health Systems, Inc. Argus is the largest processor of pharmacy claims in the United States. Charlie previously was the President and CEO of DST Output Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of DST Systems, and the largest provider of print mail and archiving applications for the financial services and related industries in the United States. Prior to this, Charlie owned and operated United MicroGraphic Systems, Inc. and was a Pilot in the United States Navy. He is currently active on a wide variety of corporate and not for profit boards across the United States. Charlie is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School and currently resides with his wife in Mission Hills, Kansas.
