Lee Alves
Vice President and General Manager - Public Sector, Simpler North America
Since joining Simpler Consulting, LP in 2001, Lee Alves has played a significant role in the success of U.S. military process improvement. He received the DMC Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award in 2004, and has supported clients’ achievement of gold status for Shingo Excellence in 2005 and 2006, and two bronze Shingo medals for results achieved in F-15 aircraft and avionics shops transformations.
Lee is an articulate and constructive communicator, mentoring with experience and skill at an executive level. He is responsible for coaching the leadership teams across all Simpler® Public sector applications, including HQ activities, on successful transformation characteristics and behaviors. Lee is a tireless and effective collaborator, encouraging growth and change in his sphere of influence.
After receiving his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, CT, in 1987, Lee was quickly immersed into improvement practices at Pratt & Whitney, and led the initial Lean conversion to product cells under the mentoring of former Toyota executives. In the early 1990s, he began receiving Lean instruction from Ed Northern and the Japanese Autonomous Study Group (Shingijutsu). Lee was one of the pioneers who led Pratt & Whitney’s transformation effort that was featured in the Womack & Jones 1996 book, Lean Thinking, in the chapter entitled, “The Acid Test.” He has also led successful enterprise transformations at Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal Aerospace) and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, which included seven sites.
Lee joined Simpler® with an exceptional knowledge of military applications, and has successfully led in the transformation at multiple Department of Defense sites. He is currently working with DOD leaders as a mentor and coach and has collaborated in the development of DOD-wide models being used across the Services.
